Building more housing and infrastructure with fewer greenhouse gas emissions

The Centre for the Sustainable Built Environment (CSBE) researches construction and urban design pathways to build the housing and infrastructure that we need while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with construction material use in line with the Paris Agreement.

Towards this goal we are calculating:

  1. The lower bound of what must be built
  2. The GHG budget that can be allotted to construction
  3. Urban form, building form and material design/selection pathways to build 1 within 2

The CSBE is led by researchers at the University of Toronto with funding support from built environment companies (material suppliers, architects, engineers, contractors) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
